He has been a part of the Peterborough community for more than 20 years, raising two sons here with his wife Jennine and participating in the life of our city through music, heritage and volunteerism.

Working in the federal government, Mike helped Canadians across the country, forged partnerships with private industry and government departments, and gained valuable knowledge in project management and budgeting.
For the past 15 years, Mike has worked for Trent University in various administrative roles. Most recently, he managed Traill College — the university's downtown campus. He has overseen several capital projects, raised money to support students’ needs, and helped countless students of all ages and their families.
Professionally, he has built a unique skillset and experience, and developed an effective, modern leadership style. He believes that this mix of public service, management, and vision is exactly what Peterborough needs.
He is persistent and always leads with integrity.
He is proud of his past achievements, but knows that there is more that he can do and more people that he can help.
Mike's Story
Mike grew up in Brockville, Ontario. When he was 12, his father died suddenly and his mother suffered paralysis from multiple sclerosis. He learned the value of hard work, persistence, collaboration, and good humour in the face of adversity at an early age. He was his high school valedictorian, served as vice-president on its student council, and earned scholarships to study history. In addition to his studies at university, he served in student government and pursued his passion for music.
Mike's connection with Peterborough started more than 30 years ago when he met wife Jennine at Queen’s University. Jennine brought him to Peterborough for her annual family reunion held at the famous "...and So Is Elvis" house on the way to Omemee. He was immediately sold on the Peterborough region, connecting strongly with its residents, and moving here in 2005. He and Jennine raised two sons in Peterborough. They attended Prince of Wales Public School and Adam Scott Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Mike teaches history occasionally, but most of his professional experience has been in administration and management with the federal government in Ottawa and at Trent University. In addition to four history degrees, he holds certificates in project management, project planning and control, procurement, change management and cultural resource management as well as training in non-violent interventions, workplace violence and harassment, and customer service.

Look, listen and act. That is Mike's simple plan to lead a team of city councillors in creating a better tomorrow. It is a consultative, coordinated and compassionate approach. He is a problem-solver who respects the complexity of issues and will roll up his sleeves to find solutions.
Highlights of His Experience
Proven Manager
Nearly 20 years as a leader, managing large budgets, overseeing diverse teams, fundraising and spearheading major capital projects, including the $1.5-million community-oriented outdoor theatre at Traill College.
Community Builder
He has built more than a dozen community partnerships, developed adult-education programs and helped raise millions of dollars for student endowments and capital renovations. He has served with the United Way, the Peterborough Historical Society and the Peterborough Singers.
Public Servant
Working at various levels of government, he has connected with thousands of people, listened to their concerns and found solutions that make sense.
